SBG - Beginner Friendly Classes

All our classes at SBG Longmile Road shaded in grey on the timetable are Beginner Friendly.  No prior experience necessary!  Yes, its true we have Irelands biggest Pro Team at all major events but the majority of our members come to us for an exciting alternative to the drudgery of a treadmill at your local gym. One of the guys training here told me recently he has lost 10 kilos in 6 months with training twice a week and with no major changes to diet!  (other testimonials here).

Classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are coached by Irelands top coach John Kavanagh along with some of his best protégés.  There is a full MMA program which includes BJJ, Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai and Fighting Fitness or if you prefer there is a Striking Only option which gives you 5 classes a week in Boxing and Muay Thai.  There is also a fantastic Bootcamp for women twice a week coached by MMAs toughest left hook Conor McGregor and a very popular (and cheap!) kids & teens class coached by Cage Contender Champ Owen Roddy.

There are many benefits to exercise; here are just a few....

Heart Disease and Stroke. Daily physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke by strengthening your heart muscle, lowering your blood pressure, raising your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels (good cholesterol) and lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels (bad cholesterol), improving blood flow, and increasing your heart's working capacity.

High Blood Pressure. Regular physical activity can reduce blood pressure in those with high blood pressure levels. Physical activity also reduces body fat, which is associated with high blood pressure.

Noninsulin-Dependent Diabetes. By reducing body fat, physical activity can help to prevent and control this type of diabetes.

Obesity. Physical activity helps to reduce body fat by building or preserving muscle mass and improving the body's ability to use calories. When physical activity is combined with proper nutrition, it can help control weight and prevent obesity, a major risk factor for many diseases.

Back Pain. By increasing muscle strength and endurance and improving flexibility and posture, regular exercise helps to prevent back pain.

Osteoporosis. Regular weight-bearing exercise promotes bone formation and may prevent many forms of bone loss associated with aging.

Psychological Effects. Regular physical activity can improve your mood and the way you feel about yourself. Researchers also have found that exercise is likely to reduce depression and anxiety and help you to better manage stress.

The bottom line on exercise Exercise and physical activity are a great way to feel better, gain health benefits and have fun. As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more - just ask your coach if you need advise. Remember to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have any health concerns.
